Work and Money
How can I explain my needs clearly when praying for prosperity?
English translation draft · Based on the Chinese article. This is not a word-for-word translation approved by Master Shengyuan.
Before praying for prosperity, clarify what needs improvement. Is income insufficient for living, does work need cash flow, or do you hope to help others? Stating a need is more practical than saying more money is always better. The Martial God of Wealth once asked why a request should mean he must give. This reminds us to examine motives, everyday good deeds, and willingness to care for others after receiving help. It cannot be reversed to judge kindness by wealth.
As a teacher, I naturally prayed for clients' prosperity but felt embarrassed asking for myself. A witch friend asked why I could seek help for clients but not myself, prompting reflection that reasonable living needs differ from mere desire. Helping also requires caring for our own conditions. Vows can begin within capacity, such as repaying debt, rather than grand wishes without matching action. A fellow practitioner recalled wondering as a child whether prayer bringing money would remove the need for work. These discussions clarify prayer and action, not blame every financial difficulty on mindset.
Prosperity requests also differ in purpose. Attracting wealth resembles increasing income; replenishing the treasury resembles repairing a pocket's holes so money does not simply flow out. The Earth God originally relates to agricultural life. Some clients unsure which deity to ask sought Guanyin's help and later invited the God of Wealth and Earth God. In my experience, Master Ji Gong also values giving fearlessness when granting prosperity. This does not rank deities. A fellow practitioner also described assistance during urgent cash needs while awaiting a tender. That was a particular experience, while preparing bids and handling work remained personal tasks.
Rituals have particular circumstances too. Three affirmative divination-block responses after a wine offering belonged to one occasion. Another wine offering had no casting of blocks and was followed by consultation with Guanyin. These cannot be combined into one universal procedure. Traffic and guidance once changed a pilgrimage's order to visiting Chiayi City God Temple before prosperity prayers. That event also addressed karmic disputes and involved descents of Lord Bao, the Seventh and Eighth Lords, and Master Ji Gong. These were its arrangements and experiences, not a mandatory route for everyone's prosperity prayers.
Prosperity rituals also teach vows, giving, and doing good. Seeking divine help still requires contributing time, labor, experience, or wisdom, improving work, methods, and relationships, and bearing responsibilities. Paying a fee does not mean waiting for someone to deliver money.
Real-estate friends have regularly attended prosperity activities and shared successful transactions. I used vitamins as a comparison for ongoing support and maintenance, not a guarantee of closing a sale with each fee. Sharing our abilities after receiving help connects prosperity prayers with helping others.
Dao Xuan used mortgages and car loans as examples: income once sufficient for living may face added burdens, requiring clarity about what now needs improvement. The deities knowing your circumstances does not mean they automatically arrange every need.
With many wishes, explain them separately, first clarifying the background and most immediate need. Discussing fewer requests at once was advice in a particular situation, not a universal limit of three wishes.
