Is watching dramas or variety shows after work a waste of time?
English translation draft · Based on the Chinese article. This is not a word-for-word translation approved by Master Shengyuan.
Watching dramas is not necessarily wasting time. Long concentration at work or study, along with hopes of performing well, can leave us tense. Timely, moderate relaxation afterwards seems normal to me. Films, dramas and variety shows are possible ways.
Watching programmes can also offer more than entertainment. During sports, I feel nervous, happy and moved alongside the athletes. Seeing them strive toward goals and encourage teammates inspires me too. Choosing good content and quietly reflecting on it creates opportunities to learn from others’ experiences.
So examine what that time offers you rather than classifying everything as waste from the words ‘watching dramas.’ Even a sports match can prompt reflection on where you want life to go and where further effort is possible. Entertainment can bring these understandings as well as relaxation.
Music is another option. Sometimes listening or singing moves me and recalls earlier times. We also put music at the end of programmes hoping that, after hearing events and principles, people retain some warmth within.
Relaxation need not take the same form for everyone. Comedy, dramas, sleep or a game may help restore happiness. Work seriously when working, and rest properly when rest is needed. Valuing time does not require remaining tense twenty-four hours a day.
