A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. If you have questions, you are welcome to discuss them.

Why do I still feel exhausted when my work only involves sitting and thinking?

Office work can still be tiring. Thinking, handling tasks and interacting with colleagues or supervisors can all feel draining. Look at your physical and emotional condition. Not continually moving about does not mean you need no rest.

A fellow practitioner working in design shared that, although most work was indoors at a desk, it often left the head feeling heavy and confused, as though a little replenished energy was immediately consumed again. The person reminded themselves to meditate and recite scriptures, and felt more replenished after these practices. This was the practitioner’s experience in work and cultivation, describing personal feelings.

I also remind people to care for both emotions and the body. Notice how you maintain your mood, whether you are already too tired, and whether you eat well and sleep enough. If physically and mentally exhausted, reconsider your rest and daily schedule while caring for your present feelings. Do not overlook your own condition.
