A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. Spiritual confusion and pressure of the spirit on the body are different terms. I understand the latter through a soul lacking strength to help itself, not deliberately spoiling life to force obedience. Spiritual confusion concerns many experiences arising during spiritual contact without understanding their relationship to reality.

Some repeatedly ask whether voices are divine, ghosts, or their own mind. The more urgently perceptions and proof of power are pursued, the easier all attention becomes fixed there. Learning should bring steadiness and gradual understanding and judgment, rather than ranking cultivation by stronger sensations.

These terms discuss different difficulties in religious service. Crying, low mood, voices, or years of cultivation alone cannot establish a category. First understand what happened and how life is affected, then seek suitable help. Prescribed medication still needs following.
