Why did I turn down a highly paid offer early in my business?

When I had just started my business and life was difficult, a fortune-telling website offered me a management job. The terms were attractive and would use my divination expertise, but required closing my studio and small temple to work entirely for the company. I struggled for about ten days before finding the courage to decline.

I had only just promised the Bodhisattva to become a teacher and benefit sentient beings. After six months of effort, abandoning that promise because another job might pay more did not sit right with me. Despite hardship, I still wanted to continue this path.

Later, a collaboration on a Chinese chess divination database brought income through organizing and licensing material using my expertise. I understood that as care along this path. But it was my choice and experience, not money arriving without work or a promise that everyone rejecting high pay receives the same return. Others cannot be asked to copy my circumstances when starting a business.
