A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. If you have questions, you are welcome to discuss them.

Why must we distinguish the circumstances of Dao Xuan seeing a shadow hit a pillar?

First distinguish what Dao Xuan saw from what others knew. He recalled a late-night gathering where a dark shadow struck a pillar, followed by a decorative panel falling. Others heard the sound but saw no shadow. He also said he tired more easily for a while afterward. From energy experience, I discussed possible intense resentment and impact, but we still did not understand why that situation had been created.

Discussing Buddhist recitation and the folk practice of swearing to drive ghosts away, I emphasized underlying intention and energy, rather than any guaranteed phrase. My own experiences differed: the first time I recited, I strongly trusted the Bodhisattva; the second, what I saw had already frightened me and my inner strength differed. These comparisons do not instruct everyone to use a few phrases to handle every unseen problem alone.
