Stories of Sheng Zhen Men
Does one bad practice-group experience mean every place is bad?
English translation draft · Based on the Chinese article. This is not a word-for-word translation approved by Master Shengyuan.
It is understandable to lose confidence after a bad experience. But that does not mean all religious groups use the same methods.
Dao Xuan shared an early experience with a teacher who controlled many things, including everyday destinations. It discouraged Dao Xuan from practice for a time before a later return. One experience certainly affects later choices, but the suitability of a new place still requires actual understanding.
Traditions and groups differ and cannot all be treated alike. Learn with wisdom and understand what you are studying. One disappointment need not end all further inquiry. Through relationships and learning, find a place suited to you, rather than hurry to close every road because of one experience.
Even after studying somewhere a long time, persistent confusion can be explored through outside questions. Dao Xuan described practitioners asking for introductions to other teachers, knowing Dao Xuan had such contacts. That created a chance to see beyond the original circle. More understanding is not fault-finding everywhere; it provides reference points to clarify what remains stuck.
I have also said Sheng Zhen Men is not the only place where help is possible. Not wanting to come for now is fine. You can still develop judgment and understand principles first. Bad teachers do not mean good teachers and environments are absent. Retain the experience's lesson without rejecting your own wish to learn and grow.
Failure to receive help sometimes concerns specialty. I compare doctors in different departments: sharing the title teacher or medium does not mean everyone understands or handles every issue. Explore causes and what the person can explain or assist with. Someone's inability earlier does not mean no further understanding is possible.
Dao Xuan also shared a client's experience. A friend met at a mind-body-spirit venue later claimed psychic ability and began coercing and threatening the client, regulating activities and destinations. Under great pressure, the client left and temporarily feared similar places. Divination and explanation later brought reassurance and willingness to begin with family blessing lamps. This was a client's account relayed by Dao Xuan, distinct from Dao Xuan's own early practice experience.
