A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. If you have questions, you are welcome to discuss them.

Look at how a teacher treats people and conducts affairs, not only unusual abilities or perceptions. Within my faith understanding, ghosts and demons may have powers too. Special abilities therefore do not mean character and behavior are correct. Continue observing, while also recognizing that a few reminders cannot determine someone's supernatural identity.

I have encountered people threatening that leaving would harm family, and discussed courses that first diminish participants and then use affirmation to make them feel reborn. Examine the entire process, not only how positive the ending feels. Fear can leave someone aware of pain yet afraid to leave; this cannot simply be called insufficient intelligence. Courses differ and should not all be rejected, but labels of growth or religion cannot conceal control and injury.

When you or a relative is unwell and urgently seeking help, that need can also be exploited. Good medical care and faith can support you. Yet receiving some benefit or paying nothing does not remove the need for judgment. I have compared this with scams offering small initial gains: receiving something now does not mean greater losses cannot follow.

I have also criticized centers supported by gambling or hostess-club income yet praised as compassionate because religious service is free. In my view, drawing people through desire, even toward family ruin, cannot be overlooked merely because part of the income helps others. Examine where resources come from and how people are treated, not only whether you were charged this time.

If someone repeatedly claims to know even your private actions and makes you feel you cannot escape their control wherever you go, pause and examine this. Some seeking help were afraid even to worship elsewhere or speak with me, fearing discovery would anger that person. In my experience of deities, protecting and teaching people differs from frightening them with details of private life. I did not guarantee that the person could not be a deity. The important question was whether the interaction had become controlling and removed even the space to understand and judge.

Show more understanding to people who feel controlled and afraid to leave. I have met those frightened to seek other help, and those threatened that departure would cause relatives illness or death. What seems unreasonable outside can be genuinely terrifying within. Understanding what they bear makes helping more possible. Do not only blame them for not leaving.

Methods also need careful scrutiny. Sheng Zhen Men assists in an open main hall, with family and practitioners allowed nearby. I have emphasized gentle hand placement to transmit energy, not blows causing bruising or bleeding. If someone requires you to sleep, change into more revealing clothes, or involve unrelated friends to bear consequences, stop and ask clearly, with trusted people helping assess. Fear of unseen matters cannot justify accepting visible harm to people.
