Divination and Guidance
What is an incidental divinatory sign, and does seeing an accident establish its cause?
English translation draft · Based on the Chinese article. This is not a word-for-word translation approved by Master Shengyuan.
An incidental sign means noticing something in current events worth further understanding, not already establishing a cause. I discussed someone falling at home and needing stitches to the head. From a divination perspective, this prompted wondering whether more required investigation. If a familiar friend, I might suggest consulting divination to explore ordinary unfavorable fortune or other religious obstacles.
But I did not actually perform that reading and cannot claim a result. Noticing symbolism differs from knowing how an accident happened. Later news cannot directly establish a definite causal link between events either. Discussing signs means observing and asking questions, not concluding from an injury that someone has an unseen problem or did wrong.
The same applies to major accidents. I discussed the timing of an engineering vehicle meeting a train, where earlier or later might have changed the outcome, and associated it religiously with energetic attraction. But discussion of brakes, vehicle condition, and negligence was based on news, not full investigation. Religious understanding is not accident investigation or a conclusion about responsibility and every participant’s karma.
Spilling water during divination was another example. Some teachers associate water and wealth as one angle for understanding, but spilled water does not guarantee money is coming. Distinguish observation, interpretation, and established facts.
