Deities and Faith
How do shrines to departed spirits differ from orthodox deity temples, and why does method matter with karmic creditors?

In my faith terminology, orthodox deities are appointed by Heaven and sent to the human world. Some shrines to departed spirits formed through settling and worshipping local ancestors, righteous community members or unclaimed souls. I sometimes compare formal training with local formation, but a temple’s name or appearance cannot tell us every part of its origin.
Shrines to Wanying Gong and Youying Gong carry folk purposes of settling souls. Courtesy and respect when passing are enough; difference need not prompt criticism. I generally do not recommend bringing every wish there without reason. A quick effect once also does not establish complete suitability.
I shared cases of repeated attempts to resolve karmic creditors at a public spirit shrine where readings later still indicated problems. In my religious understanding, some methods may force temporary retreat rather than face karma and grievances. Mismatched force and methods may deepen entanglement. I suggest orthodox divine assistance and first understanding causes. This is a service perspective requiring individual assessment, not identical judgment of every place and help-seeker.
The label also depends on viewpoint. Origins in honoring early residents or righteous dead may place a shrine in that category, while longstanding believers now honor them as deities and may reject the label. I have said not all such shrines are bad. Origins cannot directly judge present goodness or attainment. Ordinary people’s difficulty understanding local conditions makes caution more important.
