A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. If you have questions, you are welcome to discuss them.

Faith can offer support, but you still need to walk your own path. If you know the problem yet change nothing, worship alone is unlikely to transform it. When I speak of doing things personally, I hope belief becomes preparation, action and correction rather than remaining only words.

First examine which responsibilities are yours rather than blaming deities, ancestors or others whenever something goes wrong. This does not mean accepting every fault. It means finding the source clearly: communicate where needed, organize what needs organizing and ask for assistance where necessary. Whether you have genuinely done your part is important.

Ritual can assist, not fulfill your responsibility. Divine direction still requires your step, and someone’s past help does not make them permanently responsible. Change needs more than immediate emotion. Observe differences in life and conduct over time. Doing what is possible, admitting errors and adjusting brings faith into life.

Dao Shun recalled business setbacks and low periods leading to greater stability, discussing divine help and self-help together. While work struggled, he kept learning and noticing what he did rightly or wrongly and whether he would change. This was his experience, not guaranteed income or living conditions for everyone joining.

From childhood he thought that if worship guaranteed money, everyone could worship instead of work. When discussing opportunities and good connections, we hope people are ready to receive help when it comes. Earnings do not measure faith. Look at what you can and will do.

During the pandemic I reminded people to first follow necessary precautions and responsibilities, then pray for protection. One blessing ceremony cannot remove everyday responsibility. That reminder’s enduring point is faith working together with action.

Belief in support and personal learning do not conflict. I use bubble tea as a comparison: another person describing taste differs from personally understanding half-sugar and full-sugar. Deities resemble teachers offering reminders and strength, but some experience must be lived. Support should be used in learning and action, not surrendering everything.
