A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. The Seven Mothers, Bed Mother and Mid-Autumn moon worship need separate understanding. All may express family and protection, but concern different deities and methods. Sweet rice dumplings, flowers and dressing items offered to the Seven Mothers have distinct symbolism. Bed Mother faith relates to wishes for children’s restful sleep and safe growth.

Customs also adapt with time. Offerings express intention and understanding of divine characteristics without necessarily copying every ancient item. Fire near a bed requires particular care. Choose a suitable place for family conditions rather than sacrifice safety to form.

Discussing Mid-Autumn, I have shared connections with the Matchmaker, Moon Goddess and Earth God, and experiences of practice near the moon. A practitioner’s spirit movement and sharing feelings with the Moon Goddess were that person’s experience, not compulsory for everyone. Those unfamiliar should not experiment alone. Understand customs’ care for children, family, relationships and life, retaining respect and blessings. Daily care continues after festival worship.

Ordinary expressions can be simple. On the evening of the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month, face the moon, join your hands and say what is in your heart. You may also visit a nearby temple worshipping the Moon Goddess. This differs from advanced exercises or spiritual gatherings. Not every blessing needs elaborate arrangements.
