Spiritual Cultivation and Movement
How does Master Shengyuan distinguish 'true deities do not possess bodies' from expressing deities through spiritual mediumship?
English translation draft · Based on the Chinese article. This is not a word-for-word translation approved by Master Shengyuan.
First clarify what 'possession' means before discussing the statement. Handing over the entire body and no longer being in control is different from the perception and expression of deities I describe in spiritual cultivation.
In my own experience, when connecting with deities, I remain myself. I compare it to a radio or video call on a phone: tuning to a corresponding frequency presents a message from the other end, but the phone does not become that person. I also want people to understand my expression of Lord Bao from this perspective, rather than as lending him my entire body.
So within my definition of possession, I can understand and agree with 'true deities do not possess bodies; those who possess are not true deities.' True deities are pure beings. My approach at Sheng Zhen Men is communication with a deity, not the deity entering completely and replacing me. When discussing the Taoist Patriarch, I also explain this perception through dialogue and translation.
People may use terms differently. Seeing spontaneous movement or hearing terms such as descent or possession does not mean we can treat everyone as identical before understanding the actual circumstances. Nor does someone taking a method astray mean every spiritual cultivation student is problematic. Clarify the meaning and look at what the person actually does and the direction of their learning.
