A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. If you have questions, you are welcome to discuss them.

You do not need perfection before having value. Unstable emotions and difficulties in life can continue to be learned and adjusted, but cannot mean the world does not need you.

I discussed controversy over a principal’s speech. Encouraging time, emotion and bodily management is understandable, but calling people unnecessary if they fail was deeply inappropriate to me. Encouraging better life differs greatly from denying its worth.

An interviewee’s story involved a classmate afraid to go home after scoring ninety-eight, while her own family celebrated sixty. This was another’s experience, but asks whether constant external standards leave us feeling never good enough.

Practice is similar. I am not perfect either. Progress sometimes alternates with failures, followed by continued effort. Master Ji Gong teaches comparison with yesterday’s self: thirty-five today after thirty yesterday is still progress. Recognising improvement needs and appreciating effort can coexist. Others’ perfection standards need not precede affirmation of life.
