Explain the wish clearly, but offering cat food to Tiger Lord differs from asking a blessing on food to take home for a cat. I still advised giving canned cat food to cats rather than directly treating it as the deity’s offering.

I think asking protection for a pet is an acceptable intention. To avoid misunderstanding, I suggested holding the can while explaining, then putting it away after worship rather than placing it on the offering table as though for the deity to eat. Temples have their own practices, which should first be understood and respected. My suggested arrangement cannot require acceptance everywhere.

In my faith understanding, Tiger Lord naturally feels connected with cats, but is not limited to protecting them. Dogs, parrots, and other pets can also be included in wishes for care. Regarding a reported censer flare-up, without understanding the person’s intention and full process, one image alone cannot establish divine anger.
