Deities and Faith
Why seek divine guidance after learning religious services? Must everyday help also be approved?
English translation draft · Based on the Chinese article. This is not a word-for-word translation approved by Master Shengyuan.
Not every act of help requires first asking a deity. Lending money, cooking or using learned skills to advise someone can be your own decision. But when asking deities to resolve unseen karmic relationships, remembering a ritual does not make you fully authorised to decide everything yourself.
A student asked why, having learned to resolve matters with karmic creditors, they could not help directly. I explained that, in our understanding, the ritual asks deities to communicate and coordinate. Repeating human actions cannot promise anything on a deity’s behalf. First understand the situation and seek guidance about whether help is possible and which deity is appropriate.
Divination also needs separate consideration. It is a skill you can decide to offer, and not every reading necessarily involves risk. But when addressing unseen distress, know your abilities and boundaries. Discussing possible karmic responsibility encourages caution. It does not mean deities always bear a fixed proportion or every act of help causes misfortune.
Also, something you consider good may not be needed by the other person. Before taking someone toward what you consider a better life, understand whether they want it. Helping requires more than enthusiasm: consider their needs, the nature of the matter and your actual capacity.
