Spiritual Cultivation and Movement
Does everyone have a divine beast, and must it be brought back separately for group practice?
English translation draft · Based on the Chinese article. This is not a word-for-word translation approved by Master Shengyuan.
Not everyone necessarily has a divine beast accompanying them. In my understanding, some people’s spiritual origins may have an affinity with a particular divine beast, but that cannot be extended to everyone. Nor should a teacher’s claim alone prompt you to hurry out and bring one back.
A listener said their previous centre took people to receive divine beasts, bringing them back for group practice and reciting scriptures to dedicate merit. I question such an account: if the being is already divine, why must a person retrieve it? If already connected with one’s spirituality, why must it be found separately? Those leading the practice need to explain these points clearly.
I also acknowledge what I do not yet understand about others’ methods and have invited people with relevant experience to discuss them. One listener’s retelling cannot establish what every centre actually receives. For Sheng Zhen Men, the priority remains cultivating the original spirit and understanding what we are learning, rather than treating pursuit of a special companion or identity as proof of progress.
