A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. That is not a sound basis for judgment. Within spiritual cultivation, I accept that some use burping or yawning to release turbid qi, but methods vary. Loudness is not required to establish divine connection. Ordinary inhaling and exhaling exercises also involve this purpose.

Beginners may have stronger reactions through lack of understanding, but can gradually practice control. I have also met people deliberately making loud sounds to display their sensitivity. That desire to prove distinctiveness deserves examination. Yet not everyone burping loudly is showing off; sound alone cannot determine motive.

Cultivation trains balance and stability. Joy at encountering a deity and wanting to move can be understood, but one can also worship calmly and receive blessings. Obvious sounds and movements are not necessary for practice to count.
