A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. If you have questions, you are welcome to discuss them.

Why pay attention to outside sightlines and privacy even in my own home?

You can relax at home while still noticing whether people outside can see inside. Between buildings, or when living near an elevated road, the view works both ways. Others may see your balcony and even what is happening in the living room.

To feel freer in your own space, first check whether doors, windows and curtains provide cover. Do not overlook sightlines from across the way simply because collecting laundry or watering plants on the balcony takes only a moment. This reminder concerns everyone, male or female, and aims to protect privacy first.

When staying away from home, also notice the surrounding furnishings and anything that seems wrong. I have heard accounts of someone finding the orientation of a bin or socket strange, checking and discovering a hidden camera. Sharing such stories encourages attention. Checking these few places cannot guarantee that every risk has been excluded.
