Spiritual Cultivation and Movement
Why does Sheng Zhen Men also bow through spontaneous spiritual movement after birthday congratulations to deities?
English translation draft · Based on the Chinese article. This is not a word-for-word translation approved by Master Shengyuan.
Spiritual cultivation and spontaneous movement are Sheng Zhen Men's practice methods. Alongside reporting, incense, congratulations, and singing Happy Birthday, we therefore also show reverence through movement. For us, this brings ordinary practice before the deities.
In our understanding, spontaneous movement activates our qi and energy in hopes of connecting as closely as possible with deities and Buddhas. We are still practicing, not already at their level. Some practitioners describe spiritual speech as 'the language of deities' and view bowing as an opportunity for divine examination of their practice. Resonance, flow, or electric-like sensations require personal practice to appreciate; terms alone cannot convey full understanding.
The focus therefore goes beyond outward movement. Inner state, willingness to learn, and understanding of cultivation all need development. This also explains studying stillness and accumulating knowledge. Inner development and practice work together so reverence is more than a performance for others.
