Deities and Faith
What does it mean to call oneself a child of the Jade Emperor or the Mother Goddess?

From the perspective of spiritual cultivation, human family terms are being used to describe an energetic and religious connection. It does not mean deities marry and reproduce like humans and then give birth to a particular child. We cannot take the words literally as proof of an especially noble bloodline.
For example, spiritual cultivation discusses the yin and yang energies of Dongwang Mugong and Xiwang Jinmu giving rise to all things, and thus calls everyone children of the Mother Goddess. From the perspective that everyone lives under Heaven’s protection, we can also say everyone is a child of Heaven. These expressions convey relationship and spirit, rather than merely whose status is higher.
What matters more is what we do. Constantly claiming an exalted identity while behaving poorly cannot replace cultivation. If you speak of a connection with the Mother Goddess, learn her inclusiveness. If you discuss Heaven’s virtues, consider whether you can extend your care more widely. Gradually bringing your words and actions closer to the deity you respect is more meaningful than continually emphasizing whose child you are.
