A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. Why does Master advise against keeping a pet’s ashes at home indefinitely from a spiritual perspective?

From the perspective of spiritual practice, I generally do not recommend keeping a pet’s ashes at home long term as a memorial. You can keep photographs and hold the memories in your heart while wishing the pet onward to a better place.

This relates to how we view emotional ties. In our understanding of energy, cremation weakens the original connection with the remains. But if the owner looks at them every day and keeps thinking about the pet, that intention may still connect them. Hoping inwardly that the pet moves forward while continually wishing it would remain nearby may allow that attachment to continue.

My suggestion is therefore to arrange another resting place for the ashes, keep photographs as memories, and gradually turn reluctance to part into blessings. This is offered for consideration from the perspective of spiritual practice and letting go of attachment.
