A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. If you already have a meditation practice and come home from work feeling tired or emotionally weighed down, you can first sit comfortably and relax, then practice white-light visualization. This is a spiritual practice I have taught: you imagine white light entering to help clear the states that feel negative to you.

First imagine white light slowly entering your body through the top of your head, passing through your neck and shoulders, and then reaching your chest. Let your shoulders relax as it moves through them. Imagine negative emotions and feelings of heaviness leaving through the soles of your feet or your limbs, returning to the earth and being absorbed by its energy. Keep imagining white light coming in until your whole body seems to shine with white light.

While doing this visualization, you can also pray to Guanyin Bodhisattva of Sheng Zhen Men for blessings and protection, asking for help in forming a protective boundary around you. In our faith, Guanyin Bodhisattva's energy is white light. Through prayer and visualization, we seek to connect with that strength.

If you do not yet know how to visualize, start by slowly reciting 'Namo Guanyin Bodhisattva.' With each recitation, imagine a little more white light gradually filling your body. You can begin practicing this way, allowing the recitation and visualization to work together.
