Deities and Faith
Can we leave decisions about work or a partner entirely to deities?

You can seek guidance from deities, but you still need to think through your own choices in life. In my understanding, deities are more like teachers who help us understand problems and learn to exercise judgment. In the end, we ourselves must face the decisions about where to work and whom to share our lives with.
It is like solving a problem. After trying to work it out yourself, you can ask a teacher about the parts you still do not understand. The teacher will discuss them with you and explain ways to think about them. But if you simply hand over the problem and ask the teacher to write the whole answer, you will not learn what you needed to learn. Seeking divine help is similar. You may ask questions, but do not hand over all your thinking and decision-making to a deity.
When looking for work, for example, first understand what you like, what you are good at, and what you can do with the qualifications and resources you have. Suppose you already know administrative work suits you and have found several acceptable vacancies. Asking which direction might be better is very different from presenting dozens of options to a deity without ever considering whether you want administrative work, sales, or an internal support role. Before starting a business or entering a partnership, you also need to consider your own ideas, abilities, and funds.
Dao Xuan shared an experience with a client who was hesitating between several potential partners. After a divination reading, Dao Xuan advised the client to remain alert and observe one of them more carefully. That person initially seemed very attentive. Later, the client returned and said that things had gradually begun to feel wrong, so they had put the brakes on the relationship. This was feedback Dao Xuan received through providing services. It also shows that after receiving a reminder, you still need to observe your actual interactions. Do not stop paying attention to someone’s behavior just because your first impression was good.
Faith can help us, but it cannot live our lives for us. Teachers show us how to observe and judge so that we gradually develop wisdom and learn how to choose. After receiving help, we still need to continue thinking and acting for ourselves.
When comparing jobs, first consider the salary, commute, how the interview felt, and the situation of the company and colleagues. If you only wait to hear “Go to this company,” you can easily skip the judgment you should have learned to make. In earlier years, we arranged frequent sessions in which deities descended through a medium to answer questions. One consideration behind later changing that arrangement was the wish to avoid people depending on divine help for everything.
This does not mean people are forbidden to seek help with problems, or that deities no longer help. We have continued to have experiences of deities descending to assist when needed. Encouraging people to think for themselves and being willing to lend a hand when they are in difficulty can go together.
