Does spiritual awakening mean I will definitely be able to communicate with spirits?

Not necessarily. Spiritual awakening and certain ability to communicate with spirits cannot simply be equated. Spiritual cultivation helps people understand their own spirituality, potential and original qualities. It does not guarantee that everyone will eventually have the same kind of perceptive ability.

A teacher who guided me in the past once asked how spirit communication could actually be taught, because some students complained that their teachers never taught them that skill. Later, through my own practice, I came to understand that if awakening means recovering the soul’s original memories, someone not originally skilled in perception will not automatically become highly capable of spirit communication merely by taking this path. This is a faith-based view of spiritual differences. It does not mean a person’s current behavior allows us to make a final judgment about their talents or past lives.

I place more importance on caring for body, mind and spirit together: the condition of the body, the direction of our thoughts and conduct, and whether we feel more settled and at ease inwardly. We cannot decide whether learning is meaningful only by whether spirit communication occurs. Even if perceptions develop, the principles truly learned still need to be applied to ourselves.
