A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. Our introduced cards do not require carrying a separate board. They are small and portable, with reference words to consult when an explanation is forgotten.

A practitioner demonstrated drawing a single card with its meaning printed on it. We wanted convenience so carrying difficulty would not prevent people exploring the tool.

Miao Nian offered red as favorable and black as unfavorable for the simplest introduction, then explained different energy levels and readings within both. Color was a starting guide, not a replacement for full meanings in different situations.

Convenience mattered in design. Written references support learning; gradually understanding each piece helps apply it to the desired question.

The words also developed gradually. I wrote chess sayings, representative figures, and definitions over time. Later cards drew on Heart Sutra and Scripture of Clarity and Stillness principles. Recording understanding made the portable tool something to read and reflect upon too.

Cards include representative people and deities, sayings, and disciple rules. Those responsive to words may find reminders for their question. Comparing these to a crib sheet means they provide another reference for beginners.

Earlier carrying experience also shaped cards. A full set was bulky and noisy; small wooden tiles followed, then cards first used by students and disciples. Each adjustment aimed at easier transport and reference.

I also introduced a small manual and interpretation hints in a book. Consult them alongside the question when unfamiliar. Yet a single piece’s meaning and combining several pieces are separate learning tasks. Hints do not create instant complete understanding.

The earliest cards were computer printouts on stiff paper and looked basic. More complete and convenient versions gradually followed. The tool developed step by step from actual needs.
