Deities and Faith
Could people join the past million-recitation activity without leaving personal details?
English translation draft · Based on the Chinese article. This is not a word-for-word translation approved by Master Shengyuan.
Yes. When we invited people to join the shared recitation, anyone willing could take part, and it was fine if providing personal information was inconvenient. Registering names and counts helped us compile the totals and write the prayers. It was not intended to exclude people who sincerely wished to participate.
That activity took place during the pandemic. We hoped everyone could work together to accumulate one million recitations, dedicating the merit to Taiwan’s land and people while also blessing ourselves, our families, relatives and friends. One million was the shared target. It did not mean that each person had to recite a million times.
We also clearly explained that reciting ‘Namo Guanshiyin Pusa’ was sufficient. Participants could record their counts so we could total them and dedicate the merit together. Those unable to register could still participate through their own sincere intention.
Each round of recitation counted. The purpose in organising the activity was to invite people and their loved ones to put their hearts into offering blessings together. What mattered was not only the numbers on a form, but whether people were willing to contribute this shared care.
If the difficulty was simply unfamiliarity with the online form or trouble filling it in, people could also contact our administrator through LINE and we would help register them. That was different from being unable to provide personal information. The assistance was arranged to make participation easier.
The later shared recitation of Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva’s sacred name did not require people to catch the livestream either. We explained that, whenever they had time, they could spend five or ten minutes reciting with concentration, record their count and report it. These contributions could accumulate together, and when the activity concluded we would compile the register and dedicate the merit collectively. This arrangement aimed to make joining easier, so that missing a livestream did not feel like losing the whole opportunity.
Even without a shared activity, you can recite sacred names yourself. Miao Yuan later shared that, although no further million-recitation campaign had been organised during that period, people could still recite ‘Namo Guanshiyin Pusa’ at home to settle their minds and pray for those who were suffering. Join others when there is an activity, and continue practising sincerely in everyday life too.
