Deities and Faith
How can I show respect before entering a mountain without knowing ancestral-spirit worship?

If you do not know how to worship ancestral spirits, you can express respect before entering at a nearby Earth God temple connected with that mountain. Even without preparing the particular offerings we have used, you may worship the Earth God. Respecting the place matters more than reproducing one exact form.
Early in cultivation, a senior practitioner taught me to prepare millet wine, betel nuts, and cigarettes as greetings to mountain deities or ancestral spirits. That was a method I learned and used. Indigenous sacred mountains also involve established local faith and daily life; they are not places to enter and use however we please.
First check what is allowed. Some mountain areas prohibit incense or cigarette offerings, and personal wishes to worship cannot override restrictions. Where offerings are permitted, attend to safety, clean up, and carry everything down rather than leave pollution.
You can also explain your intention at an Earth God temple nearby or within the mountain. I have suggested an extra set of offerings or spirit paper dedicated to mountain ancestral spirits as one possibility. Yet not every trailhead has a temple, and offerings do not authorize entry to prohibited areas.
Before climbing, we also tell local mountain, dragon, and land deities who we are and why we came, requesting protection. This expresses faith respect alongside recognizing nature’s power and traveling with companions when terrain is unfamiliar. Prayer and actual safety throughout the journey both deserve serious attention.
