A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. If you have questions, you are welcome to discuss them.

Yes. You can begin with yourself and family rather than feel inadequate for not dedicating to all beings immediately. Gradually extending from self and family to friends, colleagues and beings is also an approach.

After recitation, dedicate merit to connected karmic creditors and karmic disputes, wishing relief from suffering and resolution of grievances. You can also pray for health, smooth work or parents’ safety. Clearly stating whom you wish to help and what you seek makes the direction clearer.

Extending care widely is good. But caring for body, mind and spirit before contributing further is also fine. Do not treat the largest scope as the only good approach while ignoring present condition.

If exhausted and sleepy, rest first. Low energy does not always prohibit recitation, but direct practice toward yourself without rushing to dedicate to many people. Reassess capacity when refreshed. Helping within means prevents intended generosity becoming personal pressure.
