A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. If you have questions, you are welcome to discuss them.

Yes. After scripture or sacred-name recitation, you can ask the Bodhisattva to oversee and distribute the merit. Clearly express whom you wish to benefit and what help you hope for. This is also a prayer.

To bless a deceased mother, for instance, ask the Bodhisattva to guide her and let her practice nearby, while conveying that you will care for your own life so she can rest assured. Expressing these intentions gives recitation and dedication clear direction.

If you normally approach or worship a Bodhisattva at a particular place, naming that source makes the connection clearer. My example of relying on Sheng Zhen Men’s Guanyin Bodhisattva illustrates this.

Without a home statue or regular temple, simply believing in Guanyin Bodhisattva still permits prayer. After reciting, explain the recipient and desired assistance. A clear source is preferable, but lacking a particular center is acceptable too.
