A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. Not necessarily. Religious objects have different purposes. Some guard the home and seek safety, rather than serve as portable tools for subduing harmful spirits. Understanding purpose matters more than name or appearance.

A student asked whether a shrine’s pentagram object could be used as an implement. I understood that type more as home protection, with a sense of establishing a boundary and praying for peace. This does not give every pentagram-shaped object the same use.

An arrow from Sanjusangendo is similar. Despite the symbolism of shooting harmful spirits back, I understand it mainly as guarding. A weapon-like appearance cannot alone establish its actual religious use.
