A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. The degree of blackening is not a test of divine presence. Incense connects and expresses respect within faith, but small amounts still bring fragrance. Dense smoke is not required to establish sincerity or a deity.

Some temple appearances reflect older generations' understanding of incense. Some darkness may simply conserve electricity. I feel forms can adjust, and cleanliness, brightness, and warmth matter too. A blacker statue need not be considered better.

Conversely, a dark altar photograph or lighting that feels strange cannot establish no deity there. Notice personal suitability while understanding the setting, methods, and interactions. One color cannot determine religious judgment.
