Spiritual Cultivation and Movement
What does spiritual sensitivity mean, and does sensing something imply the ability to handle it?
English translation draft · Based on the Chinese article. This is not a word-for-word translation approved by Master Shengyuan.
On the program, spiritual sensitivity mainly describes people who more distinctly perceive what we call unseen influences, energy, or a place's atmosphere. Some see forms; others only feel uncomfortable. Manifestations differ. These terms belong to our discussion of religious experiences. A crying child or your own low mood alone cannot determine a person's constitution.
Sensitivity itself is not necessarily bad. I have discussed using awareness of an uncomfortable place to keep some distance and help avoid unfavorable influences. But perceiving something differs from knowing its cause or how to handle it. Seeing something once does not mean you can already perform exorcism or deliverance. Nor should all your attention in life become focused on these feelings.
When a place unsettles a child or yourself, I first consider whether you can leave. You do not always need to stay and prove fearlessness. Within faith, protective objects and prayers for divine protection can be explored, though protective objects have limits. I have heard of closing off perceptions and understand the protective intention. My own preference is to retain awareness and learn to settle it, rather than block all feelings from the outset.
First explain what happened clearly, then consider the assistance needed. Let a doctor understand physical or mental difficulties first. Discuss religious questions separately with trustworthy people willing to explain. The label 'sensitive' cannot account for every discomfort a person experiences.
