A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. If you have questions, you are welcome to discuss them.

Bodily movement alone does not establish spirit-led movement. In our teaching, meditation first settles you to contact the original spirit and nurture spiritual qi. Qi-led movement arises from flowing qi, while spirit-led movement also includes the spirit’s consciousness.

When relaxed, the body may follow qi flow, sometimes called spontaneous moving exercises. Large movements, even resembling martial arts, do not prove through appearance that original-spirit consciousness is operating.

Sword dancing and sword-finger gestures illustrate how movements may express a spirit’s existing consciousness and qualities. Beginners still need experienced teachers to distinguish and gradually develop judgment through practice.

A chef may tell you to turn food when golden and crisp. Understanding the words does not guarantee handling it well in the pan; experience remains needed. A teacher opens the door, and personal cultivation follows, yet initial guidance matters. A wrong method may yield little despite long exploration.

I explored this early while meditating at a fellow practitioner’s home. From trembling hands, I tried waving with the qi feeling, first rotating the right hand and later both. Looking back, it began more like qi movement and gradually entered spirit-led movement as actions changed. Awareness remained clear throughout.

Earlier qi movement involved waist or elbows rotating in one direction with a regular pattern. I could talk while moving without planning every action mentally. Later movements became richer and included spiritual consciousness, while possibly retaining yin-yang balance. Clear awareness differs from deliberate choreography. Large actions or circling alone cannot distinguish them.

Observation needs time. With practice, original-spirit circulation and movements should develop. If years remain identical, discuss whether the same qi is circulating or the original spirit has not clearly emerged. These are inquiries, not proof of false movement from one repeated action.

Pressure of spirit on the body is another matter. Qi and spirit-led movement distinguish what operates during practice. Spiritual pressure concerns inner spirituality and human life not coordinating, possibly appearing as unhappiness. I used a soul wanting meditation while daily life never allows it, not the original spirit deliberately bullying you. These are not three successive upgrade stages, and bodily movement alone does not establish spiritual pressure.

Inner disharmony also cannot explain every physical or emotional difficulty. Discussing breathing problems and poor health, I acknowledged possible combined issues. Understand actual conditions first rather than attaching a spiritual name to similar sensations.
