Spiritual Cultivation and Movement
Why must Fu Mo practitioners train physical stamina as well as spiritual power?
English translation draft · Based on the Chinese article. This is not a word-for-word translation approved by Master Shengyuan.
Spiritual power alone is insufficient; physical stamina needs training too. Fu Mo work can continue for a long time, requiring concentration and bodily endurance. Some cases I handled took two or three hours, and others longer. Chanting, communication, and adjusting methods to the person's condition require more than initial enthusiasm. A longer duration does not prove greater ability; it depends on what the situation needs.
In Sheng Zhen Men's understanding, spiritual strength works through the body, which must also be able to bear requested blessings. But a strong physical appearance does not reveal the level of spiritual power. Regular exercise and appropriate training belong alongside meditation, scriptures, and mantras. Both bodily and spiritual practices need attention.
I felt this clearly at our first anniversary. After nearly a year without spiritual movement, exchanging with visiting friends and beginning to move soon tired me. I still remember breathlessness and a pale face. Training resembles exercise and needs continuity, rather than occasional bursts of effort. This experience describes how depleted I felt then. It does not mean you must train until weak for it to count as progress.
Judgment matters alongside stamina. Strength does not mean meeting every situation with force. Understanding problems, communicating patiently, and knowing when to change methods are equally important. Ability, experience, judgment, and a wish to help develop gradually for service responsibilities. Do not intervene rashly while strength remains insufficient.
