A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. If you have questions, you are welcome to discuss them.

Parenting and Family

Must descendants become spiritual teachers because ancestors ran a temple?

  • ancestral transmission and freely made vows

One case showed how ancestral expectations emerged in our assessment. A sensitive woman had been dry-heaving and feeling unwell for days and perceived unfavorable unseen circumstances. We initially suspected unseen interference, but Chinese chess showed ancestral protection, not negative beings. Asked to perceive further, Dao Xuan saw many tables resembling those used by divine mediums and many elderly people resembling Ming- or Qing-era figures. They seemed like ancestors, perhaps mediums, teachers, diviners, or ritual specialists, somewhat like a divination family. These were Dao Xuan’s perceptions, originally qualified as “perhaps” and “somewhat like.” Comparing reading and perception led to the understanding that ancestors had expectations of this sensitive descendant: serious cultivation, perhaps accumulating merit or continuing their vows. Their approach could sometimes be protective. Some might be practicing, while others’ spirit-world circumstances were not necessarily favorable. The reading indicated wishes to cultivate higher and gain descendants’ merit. Questions to deities about addressing or resolving it brought no answer. Finally, she was asked to speak to her original spirit and ask her spiritual patron, apparently Jiutian Xuannü, to convey that if such a mission and expectations truly existed, she willingly would practice but needed time. Her child was young, she had not previously considered this work, and wanted to learn and think about next steps. The emphasis was willingness, with the route still to discuss. Afterwards, continual dry-heaving stopped. This individual case does not mean every sensitive person has identical ancestral expectations or that these words guarantee improvement.
