Spiritual Cultivation and Movement
What is unity of spirit and person, and does fulfillment always come from religion?

Unity of spirit and person can first be understood as aligning the direction your heart wants with your everyday actions. I have used walking east as a metaphor: when soul and body both go east instead of continually pulling against each other, joy, fulfillment, and abundance become easier to feel.
Religion is not the only source of such fulfillment. People who love crafts, beauty work, healing, or helping may find stability in work they sincerely want to do. When discussing drawing on wisdom across lifetimes, I use a faith-based metaphor, not a calculation of lifetimes or years to measure ability. The point is understanding your inner self and matching life with your direction, beyond outward spontaneous spiritual movements.
Helping is similar. If inwardly moved by life's joys and sorrows to relieve suffering, and your human thinking supports that direction, learn and build ability step by step. Do not merely announce a great mission while refusing to understand or study and expecting deities to do everything.
Dao Xuan shared placing great importance on spiritual fulfillment after beginning practice. In his life as a full-time religious worker, assisting devotees alongside the teacher can run late and be exhausting, yet bring profound fulfillment. That is his experience of work and faith. It also shows how meaningful alignment between inner willingness and daily effort can be.
I have compared souls through images of height and body shape to explain differing inner states, not to say a physically large person necessarily has a large soul. Nor can attainment across lifetimes be calculated from a few year counts. Applying these metaphors literally takes us further from their intended meaning.
