Dreams can offer important reminders in practice, but some simply reflect daily memories without special meaning. First clarify what you dreamed and gradually explore what it may express. Do not immediately decide upon waking that it is divine instruction. In my practice experience, habitual rational thinking can make some spiritual feelings easier to notice while asleep and no longer thinking actively.

A frightening film by day followed by similar dream scenes may simply reflect daytime thoughts. A concrete dream of deities, spirits, or ancestors that stays on your mind after waking may deserve further exploration. If uncertain, divination within your faith can be used to ask whether there is a reminder.

Record the contents while you remember. Write them down or record yourself describing the images on your phone. Reviewing later alongside events in life may bring greater understanding. We have discussed dreams of fighting alongside spiritual soldiers and generals, and dreams of deities or relatives. Each has its setting, and clear description allows further discussion.

YOYO dreamed of carrying me on a bicycle along a mountain road to a Nuwa temple. Hearing the description immediately brought Dafu Butian Temple in Yilan to mind. Although I had not been there, I intuitively felt it was the place. The actual temple is by the sea, unlike the dream's mountain road. YOYO considered the mountains passed en route from Taipei through the Hsuehshan Tunnel and felt the imagery corresponded. We later changed the planned visit from Jietian Temple to Butian Temple.

Dao Xuan often has such dreams too. Their scenes are not always understood by the dreamer. On hearing a description, I sometimes receive inspiration about a possible interpretation. The dreamer and the person helping interpret have their own experiences and roles.

I also have a memorable dream. A train passed through my body, and I thought I had died, urgently shouting to heaven that I did not want to die. A little girl with two ponytails then offered many thousand-dollar notes, and I took only the two hundred thousand I needed. The scene changed to a temple forecourt. I shouted upward again, heard a huge thunderclap, and awoke drenched in sweat.

That dream formed a deep connection with Songshan Fengtian Temple. Through gradual faith-based understanding, I came to believe the thunder was the Thunder Ancestor waking and saving me. I later obtained a Five Thunders command tablet there. A friend assessing its energy even said the wooden tablet's energy exceeded that of crystals the friend sold. Years later, payment from a collaboration with an internet company was also two hundred thousand, reminding me of the dream's amount and making the experiences feel closely connected.

After obtaining a Tiger Lord sachet, Dao Xuan once saw a cartoon Tiger Lord resembling it while lying with closed eyes, not yet fully asleep. On a later temple visit, someone there went on to describe the Tiger Lord's movements. I still reminded Dao Xuan to understand whether it truly was the Tiger Lord. It might indeed have been, and was not necessarily harmful. Unseen matters still require wise discernment.

An old acquaintance of Dao Xuan also dreamed of me and Dao Xuan in yellow robes, seated on an altar and radiating golden light. Considering our connection with the deities and Dao Xuan's recent spiritual trial, we thought it might convey divine recognition. This did not mean we had attained spiritual fruition and literally sat there glowing. We used dream imagery to explore the connection the deities might wish the dreamer to make.

On another occasion, frequent disasters prompted Dao Xuan to wish to give something for the land, consulting me, Master Ji Gong, and the Mother Goddess. Dreams followed of finding homes for unseen beings and residents asking for help because harmful people hid nearby. Clear descriptions and further consultation gradually led to arrangements involving paper houses and spiritual soldiers' protection. YOYO later dreamed of pink food, first asking me and then consulting before connecting it with tangyuan and reunion. Everyone learned and completed the ceremony together in this way.

When a dream corresponds with a site, differences should be clear too. Before entering a home, Dao Xuan dreamed of orange walls mottled with white and a small partition at the foot of a double bed. Similar walls and a partition appeared at the client's home, feeling like a hint. But the dream room was larger and included a miniature bed inside the partition that did not exist in reality. Distinguishing what was actually dreamed from what was encountered allows proper understanding.

If a deceased relative appears in a dream describing discomfort, first record the contents clearly and consider whether something practical needs investigating. I discussed two news accounts: one about a family checking a grave because of a dream, another an online account of water leaking into a niche. These were news and online reports, not sites I personally investigated.

In my understanding of faith, a relative may be communicating through a dream, or the family may be perceiving something. But I also said in that conversation that some dreams have no special meaning or simply reflect excessive worry. Keep these possibilities open. Further faith-based divination can be sought, but dreaming of a relative does not automatically mean suffering or a required ritual.
