A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. If you have questions, you are welcome to discuss them.

Sheng Zhen Men’s development connects with my own life. I am from Shilin and feel affection for the place; the center’s later growth also remained connected with it. This explains how we arrived here, not a path every center must follow.

We have tried many new things, from Podcasts, songs, spirit-movement dance groups and bands to creative products and markets, hoping different ages can encounter practice. Miao Qing’s and YOYO’s creative work led us to ask how to approach younger people beyond traditional temple imagery. That Shilin market, its dates, gifts and services belonged to that year.

I have also described how I view statues: whether the appearance is upright, solemn and pleasing, and the consecrator’s ability. These are religious judgments, not complete assessments of all temples from appearance once. Personal history and explanations of faith need distinction, rather than becoming rules everyone must follow.
