A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. If you have questions, you are welcome to discuss them.

Understand them through teachings in our practice, service, and life experience, rather than first ranking them. The same person’s connection and feelings toward different deities may gradually change over time. Knowing a name differs from truly understanding the teaching, which requires approaching and learning.

Yaochi Jinmu, also called Wangmu Niangniang, has the role of spiritual mother of all souls in the Mother Goddess faith I discuss. Knowing this early did not necessarily bring deep feeling. Later worship helped me experience motherlike compassion more fully. Learning from her involves more than remembering a name: do we learn to care and put love into action?

Jiutian Xuannü is deeply connected with my entry into spiritual cultivation. I met Teacher Wang during military service and visited his temple after discharge, beginning meditation and gradually experiencing qi-induced and spirit-induced movements. More questions arose and I wanted continued learning. In my practice, she resembles the teacher who guided me into this method and gradual experience and understanding. This is my personal connection, not a requirement for identical reactions from every student.

Guanyin Bodhisattva has been close to me since childhood. My family worshipped the Bodhisattva, and I sought help with examinations and military-service lot drawing when young. In Sheng Zhen Men’s later services, responding to cries of suffering and people in difficulty remained central. When someone seeks help, we work to understand what we can do. But one experience of care cannot become a guarantee that everyone receives a specified outcome.

Lord Guan also gave practical encouragement. I have recalled his reminder that deities know when students and disciples sincerely and selflessly help people. Corresponding income may not come immediately, but other care remains. I understood that deities care both for those seeking help and those willing to serve. This supports continued work, not a formula exchanging unpaid service for fixed returns.

Master Ji Gong gave important help during several financial shortages, so our school often discusses him in relation to receiving and replenishing wealth. He helped me experience joy and freedom and taught perspectives on money. Even with support for financial fortune, we still need to help and give, not focus only on what we receive. Seeking money and learning to share belong together; we cannot retain only getting money in hand.

These connections and teachings are what I can explain through actual experience, not a table limiting each deity to one task. Approaching deities and Buddhas returns us to what we have learned: greater compassion and wisdom, alongside fulfilling daily responsibilities.
