What are ghosts? Do some people’s sightings or feelings mean everyone will encounter them?

I usually use gentle terms such as “A-Piao” or “good brothers” for these beings to retain respect for the deceased. In my faith, some people leave energy after death because of attachment, regret or not yet being settled. This is not limited to the seventh lunar month, and not all deceased people appear in the same form.

We also need to distinguish beings that still have intention from residual po, or energy without clear intention. Those with wishes require understanding of what they cannot release. Others resemble influences left by events or places. Energy may disperse over time. A death once occurring somewhere does not prove interference remains now.

Some people report seeing, some only feeling and others sensing nothing. One person’s experience cannot decide for everyone. Photographs, dreams and sudden discomfort also require judgment. Understanding these accounts helps explain religious terms and approaches, not make every corner frightening. Everyday respect, boundaries and practical care are more useful than constant guesses about types of ghosts.
