First notice your negative state, then find a way to adjust it so it does not keep affecting you and others. Sadness and hurt can be expressed, and you can seek understanding. Still, notice whether your words help someone understand your needs or simply direct anger at them. Spiritual practice involves gradually changing our temper and emotions so that what we share is positive energy.

After doing something wrong, do not remain trapped in guilt. Repentance in religion means recognizing where you fell short, facing it sincerely, and resolving to change. It is more than saying sorry. When later choices and actions genuinely differ, what weighs on the heart has a chance to ease, allowing a new movement in a positive direction.

When giving, examine your heart too. If you intend to help but afterward feel unwilling, complain, gossip, or sow discord, becoming increasingly negative inside, you have moved away from selfless giving. Master Ji Gong reminds us that this may count against us instead. Better first understand why you are unhappy. Genuine inner happiness and abundance make us more willing to share that goodness. This is the understanding of faith behind my linking happiness, positive energy, and blessings. During that particular birthday celebration for the Earth God, repeated consultation with divination blocks led to the reminder that everyone should personally pray for prosperity. That was the guidance received then.

Master Ji Gong's teaching that happiness brings money also makes me think about the different commitment and concentration we bring to work we love. Through faith and my experience of spiritual services, I have come to understand a relationship among happiness, positive energy, and financial fortune. I therefore ask about more than work, exploring what causes unhappiness in family, relationships, and daily life. The happiness Master Ji Gong brings is more than making someone laugh briefly. It involves helping identify causes and transform their state so they have strength to face things again. Understanding the roots shows what can change. It is more than telling someone to look on the bright side.

When negative news affects your mood, also notice the kindness around you. During the pandemic, we discussed people returning to medical work to help. A fellow practitioner also shared a news story about an older woman waiting at a red light who took out a clean mask and gave it to a young person beside her who had none. These acts did not eliminate every difficulty, but such willingness to do a little more for others still deserves a place in our hearts.

I knew a friend who felt that family members were unfair and uncaring. Frequent arguments at home brought great unhappiness. At work, this friend also readily felt bullied and came into conflict with colleagues. This shows how hurt originating at home can sometimes travel with us elsewhere and influence how we understand people before us. Besides asking who treats us badly, we can consider what is leading our heart now and begin noticing and adjusting from there.

YOYO shared unexpectedly encountering a store promotion that made a purchase of daily necessities free, feeling very lucky and happy. I thought that the same event would feel different if the only response were regret at not having taken more items or chosen more expensive ones. With the event unchanged, feelings differ according to whether we hold on to the good already received or the extra we did not get.

YOYO also noticed through personal relationships that being lively and relaxed can warm a conversation, while tension or anger can put pressure on others. I agree with this reminder. As we learn not to be carried away by others' emotions, we also need to consider whether we keep bringing our own unhappiness into interactions with them.
