A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. If you have questions, you are welcome to discuss them.

Consider the person’s circumstances together with the lamp. In service, I observe burning alongside the request and original situation before making a religious judgment.

Some clients had a fish-shaped burnt wick, a lamp blackened across one side, a broken vessel, or wax flowing into unusual forms. These were different cases. My perceptions then understood some as divine expulsion of negativity and others as reflecting existing negative influence on the person.

Most offering lamps burn smoothly. Strong cases such as complete blackening or breakage have been few over many years. If a lamp appears unfavorable, we may offer further recitation, merit dedication, blessings, or reminders of what needs attention.

Ceremony incense has also formed memorable circles, curves, hairlike ash, or shapes resembling a Bodhisattva’s hand gesture. These are observations in faith service. The lamp’s original purpose remains requesting divine blessings for a smooth and complete outcome.
