A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. If you have questions, you are welcome to discuss them.

Faith should bring understanding, wisdom, and greater willingness to face life. If it becomes a reason to stop exercising judgment or taking responsibility, consider whether it is becoming superstition. Deities provide support; worship does not release us from doing our part.

When discussing pandemic news, I mentioned a report about someone who believed supernatural protection made precautions unnecessary and deliberately approached patients. I was retelling news, without personally knowing the full circumstances. My point was that belief in deities cannot justify neglecting the body or abandoning caution.

When seeking an answer, examine present conditions: do your actions support it? What do you still need to understand or learn? Do not hand over all judgment and simply await results. Apply the methods and principles learned through faith yourself, so life does not become waiting for others to solve everything.

I also hope people understand practice as improving through cultivation, rather than fearing daily that without it they will be unlucky. Through worship, contact with deities, and understanding principles, gradually adjust yourself toward a broader outlook and greater ease. Faith should encourage learning, rather than leave every choice governed by fear.

True belief is also more than saying, 'I will believe if you improve my finances.' What I mean is admiring a Bodhisattva's compassion, wanting to learn that spirit, and making an effort. When things temporarily disappoint, explore what you can still do. Immediate success or difficulty need not determine whether faith has meaning.

When my early business struggled, I later realized I had not calculated costs clearly, understood funding arrangements, or properly assessed salaries. These were practical lessons for me. Remaining at 'Why did the deities not protect me?' would not resolve what I did not understand. Faith supported me, but I still had to face events and learn from experience.
