A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. If you have questions, you are welcome to discuss them.

How can surroundings and objects affect experiences in spiritual practice?

Surroundings and objects may affect feelings during practice, but distinguish what influence is being discussed. Feng shui considers orientation, spatial arrangements, and flow. Ashes and remains involve beliefs about the deceased and yin energy. Saying everything is energy cannot turn different problems into one matter.

Changing orientation or moving a stove illustrates that an environmental adjustment involves more than shifting something visibly: there are conditions understood through feng shui. Actual changes still require understanding the space and users, rather than copying a direction from someone else's case. I also have yin-yang views on ashes made into jewelry and their storage, but seeing an object cannot establish it caused every discomfort a person has.

We discussed news of coffin wood hidden in a dressing table, originally shared by an entertainer on a program and then reported. A newlywed wife combed her hair and sang at night; a teacher later found a piece of wood. We clarified that the whole table was not made of coffin wood. The report said workers retaliated after a price reduction of five hundred thousand, but I did not know the complete background, the wood's origin, or whether a ritual had been performed. In our faith, coffin wood and grave soil are relatively yin media, but one piece does not necessarily attract ghosts. Burning the table, dedicating a ceremony, and later pregnancy were also parts of the retold story, not an established cause of fertility.

I advise organizing old objects because, within faith, they can retain users' intentions. Antiques, favorite clothing of the deceased, and dolls may carry remembrance, but not all old things are harmful. Dao Xuan also said some old objects are excellent and durable. Keep retained items clean and bright. Long accumulation of dust, mold, or damage makes sorting and considering appropriate handling even more important.

We have helped clients process deity images, talismans, or religious ornaments they did not know how to retire, then collectively performed purification. We considered people who might later recycle or touch them, rather than simply bagging them for others to open and sort freely. This was an important part of our handling then.

Rental mattresses and sofas depend on circumstances too. Some can continue to be used without much difficulty, while others may feel unsettling. A student's inability to replace one, or an imminent move, cannot be ignored. Consider a personal bed when means allow. YOYO recalled university classmates in older rentals often feeling insufficiently rested and wondered years later whether purification might have been needed. This was a retrospective possibility, not confirmation that everyone with poor sleep lives in a haunted home. When introducing purification spray, I also said help with serious interference is limited and a teacher should investigate further. A product cannot guarantee help for every situation.

I have described a clean home that still feels oppressive or hard to remain in, or frequent family arguments, as reasons to explore further, not instant grounds for a conclusion. We also discussed residents' emotions, airflow, and sunlight. Environment and the people's states need consideration together.

I once introduced a product called the Little Apple for Good Fortune, a miniature space purifier developed with a company. We hoped everyday objects could introduce ideas about faith and daily energy. The name does not establish that everyone using it will change their fortune. Distribution, colors, and promotions described then were information for that time, not current availability.

Religious feelings about objects and a shop's business performance also need separating. We discussed an installation made from mannequin lower halves, whose feeling I disliked. When someone said the shop reportedly had poor business, I noted the pandemic's broader conditions as another possibility. The installation could not directly be established as the cause. Explain personal feelings clearly while leaving unknown causes open.

I have also used mobile phones to discuss links between people and objects. Carried and used daily, a phone, in my understanding of faith, also takes on its user's energy. Early exploration with a fellow male practitioner included attempts at spiritual healing for a phone and whether the practitioner believed in the process. Actual effectiveness still depended on personal experience. No result established that anyone could repair a phone this way. It cannot be reduced to 'Energy must be able to fix objects.'
