This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. A working adult still enduring intense parental emotions, words, or beatings can consider moving. Leaving a setting of repeated hurt does not mean rejecting parents or abandoning filial care.

An adult daughter still hit by her mother asked why I advised being unfilial when suggesting a move. I was not telling her to neglect parents. When an elder cannot handle emotions, staying may not help and may make both increasingly miserable. Space offers distance from the struggle, while visits remain possible.

Parents have backgrounds and lessons of their own. Hearing that caring for you caused all their exhaustion easily loads responsibility onto children. Yet not all their suffering was caused by you or can be solved by you. Understanding reasons differs from carrying everything.

If elders need help, encourage medical care and explore handling their condition. Staying to endure may not help. Recognizing limited ability and changing interaction is not abandoning filial care; it can stop repeated injury.

There is another side to filial care. From the practice and energy logic discussed on the program, parents also need conduct worthy of that care. If genuinely harmful, have courage to live for yourself. After efforts still fail to create workable relations, doing so may not be bad. Invoking filial duty under domestic violence or bullying is blind devotion, not necessarily true care. Protect yourself. If parents can communicate and act from fear of loss or excessive love, discuss as far as possible. Good parents naturally deserve care too. Assess objectively and case by case.

Miao Qing shared moving to a friend's home, her mother's distressed crying, and later cold interactions. I did not regard all tears as deliberate control. Elders may feel loss and not know how to face change. Understanding those feelings differs from canceling every personal life arrangement because of them.

Separate homes still require income, childcare, and care planning. Discussing in-law relations, I advised communication, mediation when needed, and suitable housing when able. Boundaries seek a livable way forward; immediate departure is not the only answer to every family conflict.

We discussed an anonymous story of a daughter testifying about her mother's abuse, then blamed after her father died driving drunk. I encouraged her not to carry all responsibility: she did not force him to drink. Discussion of a retold account did not establish every detail.

With independence, explore self-protection. If a mother is willing and circumstances allow, seek ways to leave violence together. Without capacity, ask for help rather than require children to stop adults' violence alone. Uncontrolled emotion or illness also needs medical assistance, not endless endurance.

Some elders I encountered were beaten as children and did not want to repeat it, yet did when emotions rose. My energy description of that habit aims to reveal and interrupt it. Not every survivor repeats violence, nor does a child's disobedience justify bearing adults' emotions.
