A note before reading

This library is based on Master Shengyuan’s personal experiences and reflections on spiritual practice. They may not apply to everyone’s circumstances. It is important to distinguish everyday life from spiritual practice, and science from metaphysical beliefs. Use your own judgment and read with care. If you have questions, you are welcome to discuss them.

Listen

Because they record how the child lived and saw the world at that time. Adults become accustomed to our own ideas. Sometimes only by hearing children discuss school, classmates and things they like do we discover that they notice different things from us.

I invited my daughter to record a programme together because I wanted to hear what she was thinking and feeling at her age. To me, it is also a record of life between father and daughter. Listening again ten or twenty years later to how we talked then should be very interesting.

We will both keep growing. What matters to us and how we speak may change later. Preserving the conversation cherishes the present opportunity to discuss life together and lets us hear again in the future who we were at that time.
